In recent years, China’s photovoltaic industry has made full use of its technological foundation and industrial supporting advantages to develop rapidly, gradually gaining international competitive advantages and continuously consolidating, and has already possessed the most complete photovoltaic industry chain in the world.
In the photovoltaic industry chain, upstream raw materials mainly include silicon wafers, silver slurry, soda ash, quartz sand, etc; The midstream is divided into two major parts, photovoltaic panels and photovoltaic modules; Downstream is the application field of photovoltaic, which is mainly used for power generation and can also replace fuel for heating and other purposes.
1. The installed capacity of photovoltaic power generation is steadily increasing
The installed capacity of photovoltaic power generation refers to the total amount of photovoltaic power generation. According to data, the installed capacity of photovoltaic power generation in China reached 253.43 GW in 2020, and 267.61 GW in the first half of 2021, a year-on-year increase of 23.7%.
2. Increase in polycrystalline silicon production
In terms of polycrystalline silicon, in 2020, the national production of polycrystalline silicon reached 392000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 14.6%. Among them, the top five enterprises account for 87.5% of the total domestic polysilicon production, with four enterprises producing over 50000 tons. In the first half of the year, the national production of polycrystalline silicon reached 238000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 16.1%.
3. The production of photovoltaic cells continues to grow
Photovoltaic cells are used to directly convert the light energy of the sun into electrical energy. According to the type of battery material, they can be roughly divided into crystalline silicon cells and thin film solar cells. In recent years, the production of photovoltaic cells in China has continued to grow. In the first half of 2021, China’s photovoltaic cell production reached 97.464 million kilowatts, a year-on-year increase of 52.6%.
4. Accelerated growth rate of photovoltaic module production
Photovoltaic modules are the smallest effective unit of power generation. Photovoltaic modules mainly include nine core components, including battery cells, interconnecting bars, busbars, tempered glass, EVA, backplanes, aluminum alloys, silicone, and junction boxes. In 2020, China’s photovoltaic module production was 125GW, and in the first half of 2021, the photovoltaic module production was 80.2GW, a year-on-year increase of 50.5%.
